As the parent of a volleyball player, we’ve been using the Spectrum Precision Trainer for nearly two years. To be perfectly honest, this was the best option we could find at a reasonable price that would allow my daughter to get the reps she needed to improve her game. It’s not perfect, but this device has made a difference in our practice sessions and if given the choice, I would purchase this product again. That said, here are pros and cons of this device from people who have put it through its paces.
The standout feature for us is the portability. We don’t have our own volleyball court, so we often train at two or three different locations. The fact that the Spectrum Precision Trainer is relatively easy to assemble and disassemble makes it a win for us. Yes, we had to buy a bag for the base of the trainer and we still carry the long pole and net separately, but overall, it’s easy to load and unload from our minivan.
There are other positives like:
- The innovative catch net, which attaches seamlessly to the target hoop with sturdy Velcro straps. It’s a game-changer—no more running after stray balls during drills! Every shot stays contained, keeping practice/drills flowing smoothly.
- Adjustable height and customizable target angles let us tailor it to exactly what we need, whether practicing indoors or out.
Things I wish the Spectrum Precision Trainer had after extensive use:
- Greater stability – after a while, the poles seem to get loose and the entire system feels less solid.
- Replacement parts – we lost some screws during disassembly, and it would have been nice to purchase some of those parts to keep the trainer looking good and functional. If you plan to assemble the trainer once and never take it apart, this is less of an issue.
- Clearly marked assembly guidelines – it’s not impossible, but there’s some guesswork as you put the trainer together. It’s easy to pinch your fingers if you’re not careful. Aligning the net at the right angle OR adjusting the height is easy, but be careful.
Overall, I would rate this product 3.5 out of 5 Stars. I’m happy with the product, but I would be lying if I said I haven’t looked for something better the last handful of months.
